As the Sri Lankan New Year celebrations begin, a new phase of my Remote Year is about to start. Coincidence or not, my allowed stay in the country ends exactly on the same date. These are just some of the reasons that encourage me to renew the visa…
After referring to a coincidence before, I just remembered wishing “Happy New Years“, plural, at the turn of 2015 to 2016 – unaware about the Sri Lankan New Year and without any forecast for being here in April to experience another “reveillon”..
No subtitules this time… I hope that at least one of the images is worth those famous thousand words to justify my choice. Of course there’s much more involved: the people, the places, all I still have to learn and discover . But, okay, I’m revealing the pictures were taken in Unawatuna, Galle, Nuwara Eliya, Colombo and Negombo. Find out more about this tradition here. I would only suggest an update: although the text mention the Sinhalese and Tamil, many people avoid making this distinction, as the New Year is celebrated by all throughout the country, with Peace and Prosperity desires – leaving any ethnic issues aside.
